Woohoo! That's an adult American Goldfinch; the state bird of Washington, Iowa, and New Jersey!
Common to region, though migratory. Spends its winters in southern US and Mexico. Likes weedy, open areas, farms, and open areas in the forest. Naturally eats small seeds on weed stalks and thistles.
It sings long jumbles of high twittering sounds. Calls include: "tee di di di", and a thin "tweee".
