Egg Cracking....

Every year we buy dozens of eggs and we crack them. If you are one that doesn't like kids playing with food....close your eyes. The kids love this and remember it. How often do you cook and your kids want to crack the eggs?? Now they know how, sort of. The pictures tell the rest...
We have 2 rules. Keep your hands away from your face and keep the eggs in the bowl...

Eggs!

It is that time of year again where we crack eggs. 2 rules...keep it in the bowl, and DO NOT put your hands in your mouth. We watch them closely and for the most part they follow the rules. Of course....keeping it in the bowl is hard, and I know that, so I don't care when they get it on their clothes, the floor, their hair...etc. I just keep giving them gentle reminders to keep it in the bowl. I do this every year and the children love it. This is about an hour project. They work in 2s and between them they crack about 3 dozen. When they are done cracking they start mooshing and dripping, and exploring their bowl full of eggs. It is quite the experience to watch. Olivia, who has been with me for over 3 years now....looks forward to it!! Even Lainey who is now 8 came to join in!

At first they cracked all the eggs into the bowl and put the shells into the crate. When they were done cracking they added the shells!

I am pretty sure Alondra would have gotten in if we let her :) Of course...Quinn is the last one. I think he was the last one last year too. I will have to go back and check. Here he is pretending his hand is a claw of some sort of bulldozer.....and here he is picking it up with his 'claw'. I washed all the clothes for you parents! :) I didn't think you would like dried on eggy clothes.

EGGS...

I do this activity every year and the kids just love it. Yeah, it's a little wasteful, but way worth the sensory exploration that the kids get to have. Even my 3 boys 16, 13, and 10 love to crack eggs. My 13 year old is figuring out how to empty the egg with the shell staying whole. So he can crack it on his brothers heads of course.

Each paper has 1 bowl, 2 sets of 15 eggs and 2 kids. There are 2 rules...#1 Do NOT put your hands near your mouth. #2 Keep the eggs IN the bowl. Okay guys...Break some eggs!Look how clean it looks....
Go Quinn Go....These 2 had a hard time keeping it in the bowl...These 2 ended up being the cleanest out of all the groups...Anna was the last to leave her bowl....And Surprise!....Quinn won the messiest award!! But, he kept his hands away from his face. Good Job Quinn.

Egg Cracking

It is that time of year again for the cracking of the eggs. I started this activity to teach my boys about eggs...and how to crack them. The children have so much fun cracking. Kids always want to crack the egg while baking....and I don't always want them to....so this is an activity where they can crack away! It is a good learning experience for them. How hard/soft to hit the egg, how does it feel, what is the yellow part, why is the shell so pokey, etc...This way, they learn the egg, inside and out. And don't worry, we follow strict 'no putting hands in mouth' and handwashing procedures. Ask your children to tell you all about it.

Eggsensory

This is toward the end of the egg cracking!

Now it is more of a sensory experience. A few of them have drifted off, but these four are in for the duration....I am pretty sure to see who can get the eggiest.

Easter Week 'Messy Room' activities

Our room has a split...the non messy part and the messy part. The messy area is where we do all the painting, gluing, sensory tub, playdough, crafts, and...well....messy stuff.
I have set out bunnies, plastic grass, Easter shaped pasta, paper, and glue. They can create whatever they want.
The light table has the clear plastic sheets, pastel paint, and Q-tips. They also asked for paper to makes prints.
These are the 2 easles....Each easle has 3 colors so they have to cooperate to get the colors they want. Working hard at the playdough table. There are a variety of easter shaped cookie cutters....on the other side of the wall is their 'fort'. A table with a slide connected to it.
The sensory bin is filled with colored pasta and plastic eggs.
